Your legal requirements in Mexico
What the law actually requires where you are — summarized from our jurisdiction guides. Open any topic for the full details.
Mexico requires employers to maintain preventive first-aid services throughout the work shift, with theoretical-practical first-aid and CPR training for emergency-brigade members (brigadistas); the number is set by the workplace risk analysis, size and layout rather than a fixed national ratio.
Mexico's General Law on the Provision of Services for the Attention, Care and Integral Development of Children (LGPSACDII), its Regulation and the IMSS daycare norm require childcare staff to be trained in first aid and civil protection, with immediate induction on hiring and official training within the first month.
Mexico has no federal Good Samaritan statute shielding a volunteer rescuer from civil liability; instead, Article 340 of the Federal Criminal Code imposes a duty to help or notify authorities when one finds an endangered person, if it can be done without personal risk.
There is no mandatory nationwide continuing-education hours standard for nurses and physicians in Mexico; certification through the councils (COMCE/COMACE and CONACEM) is voluntary, and along the recertification route about 150 continuing-education credits are accumulated per five-year cycle, met by recognized activities including CPR/AED, ACLS and PALS.
Care homes, residences, shelters and long-stay establishments for older adults in Mexico must have staff able to act in an emergency, provide resuscitation and use an AED, with a recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate as the way to meet this standard.
Under Mexico's Programa Nacional de Familias de Acogida, coordinated by the Sistema Nacional DIF and state DIF offices, mandatory training is a condition of a foster family's certification, and current first-aid and CPR preparation is commonly expected as part of that readiness, though details vary by state DIF.
Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Mexico; the law does not explicitly bar online first-aid training for the workplace, though NOM-030 describes brigade courses as theoretical-practical, so a hands-on component is expected.
